Barn Rules

 

 Volunteers:

 

  1. Everyone must sign in & out of the volunteer books & cardex: Even if you are at the barn to visit the horse you are boarding, taking lessons, or visiting in general.   You need to write down your hours, and be sure your email and phone number  are current.
  2. No DOGS ALLOWED.
  3. Everyone must have a current signed liability waiver on file: If you do not have a signed liability waiver on file, you are not permitted to be in the barn or on Hytyme property. Even members & guests are the responsibility of the person who brought them and are expected to follow all barn rules.
  4. Do not handle horses over your handling level. This is for your safety as well as the horses.
  5. All volunteers must check water bins and muck a stall prior to any other horse contact. This is to insure fairness to all volunteers and that necessary chores are done first.
  6. If you are a minor, you must have your parent, legal guardian or an experienced volunteer with you at all times. The responsible party must be willing to help out and supervise the minor.
  7. Plan on getting dirty, or muddy… no sandals, flip flops etc. 
  8. The volunteer area belongs to all of us, be sure to keep it clean and tidy at all times. 
  9. Leave all negative baggage at the gate. A positive attitude is a must.
  10. NO drama, NO negative talk or mistreatment of another person or animal will be tolerated. Be respectful, kind, and considerate to others. Be courteous, patient, and open-minded. We expect you to be willing to learn and enjoy yourself. 
  11. If you volunteer for something off site (e.g. writing letters, research, fundraisers, volunteer assistance, etc. We need professional consistent follow through on your responsibilities. We will need frequent updates on your progress. 

 

 Facility:

 

  1. Please keep aisles clear and free of debris. If you get brushes, tack, shampoo, fly spray, etc, out, please put them back in the designated locations. If you bring food or drinks, dump it in the appropriate containers. Do not leave manure forks and other equip in the aisle.
  2. All tack, brushes, buckets, etc must be cleaned of hair and debris prior to putting back in its proper place.
  3. Please be sure to lock & check all stall gates, and pasture gates.
  4. No smoking, alcohol, drugs on the grounds at any time. If you need to smoke, please do so outside the front gate and dispose of your butts in your vehicle.
  5. Pick up manure form aisles, arena, and stalls. Place manure in wheelbarrow and dump in manure pile.
  6. Place all trash and hay stings in garbage cans.
  7. Do not allow children to climb on gates, stalls, and arena fences, ect.
  8. If you are the last to leave, make sure all lights, radios, etc are turned off. Be sure all gates are closed.
  9. Be sure all water hoses are off.

 

Horses:

 

  1. Everyone must fill in the horses charts: Again, even if you are at the barn to visit, everything needs to be documented on each horses chart that you come into contact with. Such as grooming, groundwork, feeding, riding, etc. This is very important for us to be able to follow which horses received what care and handling each day.
  2. The care of the horses is the #1 priority.
  3. Do not feed hay or grain unless you were assigned to do so.
  4. Use cautions around the horses: No running, yelling, teasing, or throwing or swinging items. NO PETS PLEASE.
  5. All horses outside the stalls or pastures must be supervised at all times never leave horses unattended. Please make sure you have all the items you need ahead of time. If you do need something, ask someone to monitor the horse for you or put the horse back into a stall.
  6. Clean stalls without the horse inside. You can use an empty stall if needed. 

 

Riding:

 

  1. All volunteers must have a riding evaluation from an approved volunteer prior to riding any horse. Not all horses are ridable, so you must get permission to ride ahead of time.
  2. All riders must wear a helmet & boots with a heel. 
  3. All riders must perform a safety check on their tack prior to mounting. Check all buckles, screws, leathers, stitching, cinches, headstalls, and bits. Be sure the saddle and bridal are the correct fit for the horse and rider.
  4. Be courteous to other riders in the arena. Do not run up on another horse and be sure to announce when you are passing. No children are allowed to ride unless approved ahead of time by a qualified trainer and know how to correctly use the bit. 

 

Supplies:

 

  1. Be conscious of the things you use such as shampoos, ointments, fly spray, treatments, etc. Please only use what you need and close items so that they do not spill. Always put items in the correct place after use. Please write on boards what items are running low so they can be replaced.
  2. Be conservative with the shavings. Only removed wet shavings and manure. Don’t just scoop up everything. 

 

 By following these rules we can devote our undivided attention to the safety and needs of our horses, participants, and volunteers. These rules are established for the safety and protection of you, our participants, staff, and the animals that live here.

 

By signing below, you are acknowledging that you have read and understand the barn rules. You are also agreeing that if you allow yourself or anyone who accompanies your to infringe upon these rules, you assume all liability for any injuries or damages incurred as a result of your actions.

 

Under the Equine Liability Act, each participant who engages in an equine activity expressly assumes the risks of engaging in and legal responsibility for injury, loss, or damage to person or property resulting from the risk of equine activities.
